“The Young Arts Great Selfie Challenge” 2017

For the Great Selfie Challenge, we asked the school pupils to produce a ‘selfie’ on canvas, using any traditional medium that they had been trained to work with. Reflecting the small size of their phones or tablets,their selfies would be produced on a small canvas which was provided.

The artwork was judged by two Scottish working artists Carol and Glen Scouller who’s own work is exhibited around the world….

“What a sight ” Project 2015/2016

Grampian Young Arts have delivered several workshops to six schools in the Grampian region.

This pilot project was based around discussing aesthetics and building an art related lexicon with the primary and secondary pupils.
So much of a child’s education is concrete and filled with correct answers. There are no right answers in aesthetics.
The idea is to help the children’s creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills.

After these sessions, we organised a competition called ‘ What a Sight’ and asked the children to create a piece in any medium and also to justify their choice with a couple of sentences.

A winner was chosen from the Primary age category and also one from Secondary.
All the children who took part were given certificates and the prize winners received art materials….
